AVS® Outside Mount Ventvisors®: Simple Install, Big Upgrade

Updated on Jul 30, 2024

Sometimes, the little things make all of the difference when it comes to customizing your vehicle. Case in point: the Outside Mount VentVisors from the experts at AVS.

These durable, easy-to-install VentVisors give any vehicle a sporty, rugged appearance and provide a level of functionality that any driver can appreciate. To make things even better, once you read the comprehensive instructions and check out the detailed, helpful installation video (found here, under the “install” tab), you can successfully install this American-made accessory in around 15 minutes.

Let’s jump in and see why the AVS Outside Mount VentVisors should be on your truck, SUV, or wagon.

Pros:

  • Durable acrylic with an attractive, smoky tint

  • Minimizes wind noise and blocks the sun at just the right angle

  • Perfect fit, customized for specific vehicles

  • Easy installation, even for one person

Cons:

  • Could use more alcohol wipes in the package

  • A slightly rough edge can be abrasive on the hands

High-Quality Materials

One of the first things that jumped to my eye was the packaging the window visors shipped in. Instead of being thrown into a box, they were thoughtfully packaged in shrink wrap to prevent the visors from rubbing against each other.

Thankfully, the shrink-wrap wasn’t the kind that needed a band saw to open, and in just a few seconds, I had everything out of the package and laid out on the hood of my Subaru. Included in the package were four visors (two front and two rear), an instruction sheet (with a QR code linked to video instructions), and four alcohol prep pads.

Once you handle the visor, you can instantly tell that these are high-quality components that will absolutely withstand a beating on the trail or the highway (more on that later). Each unit is made of durable, thick acrylic designed to withstand UV damage. Up here in the mountains, a nice, smoky tint looks great and provides some additional sun protection on those hot summer days.

Easy Installation

Flip the visors over, and you’ll find a band of 3M branded tape all along the outer perimeter of the visors.

Installation was easy. I started by cleaning the window frame with soap and water and then prepping with the included alcohol pads. One of my few complaints about this set was that it only included one pad per window, and the pads were VERY small. I ended up fetching some alcohol from my house and giving it one last pass before starting the installation process.

All you need to do is peel back a few inches of tape (make sure to leave the backing exposed so you can grab it), line them up on one side, and press down as you remove the backing. In total, all four windows only took about 15 minutes, which was mighty impressive given my Outback was filthy.

Plus, these visors fit perfectly around the window frame thanks to precision construction and laser scanning.

Why Didn’t I Buy These Sooner?

When I was done, I was amazed at how easy the whole process was and what a huge change they made to the appearance of my Outback. Thanks to that smoky tint, they look especially good with my vehicle’s shade of Autumn Green Metallic.

After installing, I hit the road with my wife and dogs in tow to head up to the mountains for a bit of an adventure. Wouldn’t you know it, an early summer rain storm kicked up on our way up the canyon, giving me a chance to crack the windows and try out the visors. As expected, they worked perfectly, and no water made its way inside. Plus, cracking the windows wasn’t a noisy, deafening experience; it was actually pretty quiet. Almost like the windows were all the way up!

On the way home, the sun dipped low to my driver's side, and the visor covered that annoying spot between the A-pillar and the sunshade. I also noticed it was a bit cooler in the vehicle and that the top of the door (where I rest my arm) was nowhere near as hot as it normally would be. We also had a chance to test out the durability of the visors thanks to a shower of gravel from a truck we were stuck behind on a two-lane road. Surprisingly, not a scratch on any of the visors.

Before we headed home, we stopped for lunch, left the windows cracked to vent the heat, and returned to a hot vehicle instead of a sweltering sweatbox. Nice.

A No-Brainer Purchase For Any Vehicle

Overall, I was seriously impressed with the AVS Outside Mount VentVisors and recommend them to anyone who wants to gain major functionality and good looks for a reasonable price.

Installation was easy with a capital E, and AVS provides a high-quality product designed to withstand the blazing sun, gravel, and other road debris.

Based on my testing, this product will last many years in all conditions and provide real-world usefulness throughout the year.

So, what are you waiting for?
