Since Dodge released its first D/W series pickup trucks in 1980, the company has taken the truck industry by storm. RAM trucks consistently battle for top sales with the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado—together, the three automakers make up the “Big Three” domestic brands.
RAM has some prestige that the other brands don’t, however. In the mid-nineties, the company was the first to cram a high-performance diesel engine into one of its pickups with the release of the 5.9L, 12V-Cummins-powered 1989 Dodge Ram D250.
