About the Dodge Ram 1500

Though Dodge didn’t officially adopt the RAM title until a rebranding in 1981, the company has used ram’s-head emblems and hood ornaments on its pickups since the earliest models, stretching back to 1932! Instead of introducing a new model in 1981, Dodge rebranded its D and W-series pickups and B-series vans to the designation RAM…and thus, a legend was born!

Throughout the years, the Dodge RAM has gone through five generational shifts, with 2010 dropping the Dodge name entirely due to some internal politics. Though RAM and Dodge are still owned by MOPAR, the separation of the brands allowed each to refocus efforts in different directions; RAM took over the truck and HD van department, while Dodge focused on muscle cars, SUVs, and other passenger vehicles.

Through brand and generational shifts, the RAM line of pickups has proven a reliable and popular offering, joining GM and Ford as the big-three U.S. auto manufacturers. The company has brought about numerous high-end, stand-out models like the TRX, Laramie, and Rebel, which has helped the RAM 1500 collect numerous awards over the years, including:
