Introduced in 1998, beginning production the following year, and hitting dealers for the 2000 model year, the Toyota Tundra took the USDM full-size market by storm. While not Toyota’s first foray into full-size pickups, consumers often overlook the T-100, which was more or less a stretched-out Tacoma. Unlike the T-100, the Tundra stormed onto the scene with a large form factor (on par with American manufacturers), a powerful 4.7L iForce V8, and best-in-class performance.
With nearly a quarter-century under its belt and three significant revisions, the Tundra has proven itself an exceptional full-size, earning several awards, including:
2022 IIHS TSP+
Top honors at the 2021 Texas Auto Writers Association Texas Truck Rodeo
2022 Best Resale Value in its class by Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com
2022 Best Resale Value: Top 10
If these awards aren’t convincing enough, Toyota repurchased a 2007 Tundra with over 1,000,000 miles on the original powertrain in 2020; the pickup has since been retired and disassembled for educational purposes, but impressive nonetheless! Read more on the story from the team at MotorTrend.
