Towing Mud Flaps

Towing mud flaps, also called hitch-mounted mud flaps, are a must-have for frequent haulers, especially if you regularly tow open-deck trailers with valuable cargo on top. Unlike conventional fender-well-mounted mud flaps, these oversized mud flaps typically mount to your ride’s hitch receiver, preventing mud, rocks, debris, or tire sling from kicking backward directly into your precious cargo. After all, there’s nothing worse than finding fresh rock chips on a car or piece of equipment you weren’t even driving.

Selecting the Ideal Towing Mud Flaps

When browsing our selection of towing mud flaps, several factors must be considered to ensure the perfect purchase.

Width

How wide would you like your mud flaps to be? Full-width flaps offer the best protection on SRW applications and are a must-have on DRW pickups, though they’re far more conspicuous than low-profile alternatives. However, towing mud flaps aren’t for style but for protection.

Material Construction

Towing mud flaps are manufactured from multiple materials, ranging from rugged alloys to flexible rubber. Which is right for your pickup?

Aluminum mud flaps are lightweight and dependable, withstanding even the harshest impacts and abrasions without serious structural damage. Though durable, they’re also prone to unsightly dings, scratches, and tarnishing if left in a raw/polished finish.

Rubber mud flaps are elastic and impact-resistant, often sustaining no visual or structural damage even after being battered by pebbles, stones, and road debris. They also feature a subtle, matte black finish that’s far stealthier than comparable polished alloy mud flaps unless fitted with alloy weights.

Stainless steel mud flaps are tough and dependable. Thanks to their high chromium content, they feature exceptional impact and corrosion resistance.

Fitment

Towing mud flaps are available in three fitments/installation methods—universal, vehicle-specific, and adjustable.

Universal mud flaps, like the Husky Liners MudDog Mud Flaps, feature a universal design that fits most applications. While more affordable than most vehicle-specific offerings, universal mud flaps require minor drilling for installation.

Vehicle-specific mud flaps, like Rockstar Custom Splash Guards, are manufactured exclusively for your application. Traditionally, these mud flaps require no drilling or modifications for installation; instead, they utilize factory bolt holes for an OE fit and finish.

Hitch-mounted mud flaps, like the ROXTER Hitch-Mounted Mud Flaps, are quite easy to install since they attach to your truck’s current hitch setup rather than to the wheel wells. They provide a large amount of protection while sitting fully behind the bumper.
