At RealTruck®, few initiatives are as impactful—or as inspiring—as our Trail Access Grant program. So far this year, we’ve supported Tread Lightly!, Jeep Beach, and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship—each making incredible strides in conservation, access, and community impact.

This quarter, we’re proud to spotlight our Trail Access Grant awardee, Venture Unknown Foundation (VUF). Their Adopt-A-FSR (Forest Service Road) project is about more than stewardship—it’s about connection. By bringing together corporations, agencies, organizations, and public land users, VUF works to protect the places we all love. Stay tuned for our recap of their first Adopt-A-FSR event and the lasting impact it’s making.

Who Is Venture Unknown Foundation?

The Venture Unknown Foundation (VUF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural world, particularly public lands. Its 5000-member network serves as a guardian of the outdoor and overland community, promoting exploration and education. As the organization states on its website, “In a world where our beautiful public lands are at risk of neglect, our foundation stands as a champion for their preservation and conservation.”

What Was the Goal of This Project?

VUF’s Adopt-A-FSR project was the first event of its kind, designed with the goal to:

  • Restore and protect Forest Service Roads through responsible use and stewardship.

  • Collaborate with agencies, corporations, and public land users for unified action.

  • Educate the public with signage promoting trail ethics and environmental responsibility.

  • Prevent further damage by closing illegal offshoots and deterring misuse.

  • Promote long-term impact through recurring maintenance and community engagement.

  • Expand nationwide, creating a model that can be replicated across other National Forests.

Project Outcome

VUF’s first Adopt-A-FSR event brought 17 volunteers and U.S. Forest Service partners together in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest from June 13–15, 2025. At Charlie’s Creek river ford, they installed four Tread Lightly! signs with maps, creek guidance, and trail ethics, turning a once-abused area into a model of responsible recreation. At Darnell Creek FSR 150, the team installed seven signs, closed damaging offshoots, and placed the first Adopt-A-FSR trailhead sign—a milestone for the program.

Supported by RealTruck’s Rugged Ridge Trail Access Grant, the project united volunteers, agencies, and organizations around a shared mission: protecting public lands.
