An Introduction from RealTruck Brand Ambassador Todd Henderson

“Hey folks, Todd here!” That’s typically the way I introduce myself in my videos, so I think it’s a fitting way to introduce myself to RealSource. Since 2010 I’ve been making videos about pickup truck and off-road accessories.

My Time with RealTruck

I didn’t plan to be the face in all those videos, it just kinda happened. When I first accepted the position, it was to help customers pick the truck accessories that best suited their personal needs. Yep, I was hired for sales. I believe that if you take good care of customers, sales numbers take care of themselves, so my approach has never been to hit sales numbers, it was to focus on what my customers really needed, and help them with my industry insight, and also make suggestions about products they may not have even considered, based on things they would tell me about the way the plan to use their truck.

Then one day I realized that I could only talk to one customer at a time, and that If I could make videos about products that would be placed on the product’s web page, I could help more customers make informed decisions. Today, I continue to make insightful product videos and step-by-step installation guides, complete with any helpful “tech tips” for getting the installation done more easily. I guess it comes naturally to me because I love to learn and pass on useful information.

Since I have a teacher type of personality, it only made sense that I would also become the product trainer for the sales and service reps in our contact center. I wrote a curriculum and taught new team members for several years, until my media workload made it impossible for me to continue doing both jobs. I was ecstatic to turn over the training position to one of my best students, and he is doing an exceptional job of training the team to this day.

My Current Ride: 2022 Ford Maverick

In my position, I’ve built more rigs than I can even remember, most of them full-size trucks. In mid 2021, Ford announced they were going to produce the Maverick, not a full-size truck or even a mid-size, but a compact pickup, and it was going to be offered at a very attractive price. Suddenly I realized a lot more people would have the budget to get into the pickup game, and probably many of them would be first-time truck owners. I knew I needed to show a whole new group of people how they could personalize their pickups, so I put in my order for a 2022 Ford Maverick. I have created a tremendous amount of content around the Maverick platform and I’ve enjoyed driving this little truck way more than I ever expected.

Driven to Cultivate, Passion to Improve

You have probably figured out that I’m passionate about improving people’s rides by custom tailoring them to their needs, but that comes from a much deeper passion. I’m driven to leave a positive mark on society.

Probably the most exciting thing to me about working for RealTruck, is that we partner with Building Homes for Heroes. They are an incredible organization, dedicated to helping our nation’s heroes: veterans and first responders, by gifting them a mortgage-free home. I don’t know if the amount of good can be calculated by what Building Homes for Heroes does. So many of these heroes have struggled with injuries that make it difficult to function at their best. Relieving of the burden of affording a place to live, and plugging them into a community of other heroes who have experienced similar situations, provides a support system that helps them to not only thrive, but also to give back, helping others to overcome setbacks as well.

My Future with RealTruck

As I look forward, seeing the way the truck and off-road industry has been evolving, I purpose to have a positive impact by helping innovators tell the story of their products and showing they can improve the function and enjoyment that people experience with their rides.
