Ford Super Duty Trim Levels Explained

Updated on Dec 20, 2024

While the Ford Super Duty first burst onto the scene as a rugged, heavy-hauling work truck in the late 1990s, the popular pickup has since grown into a highly versatile vehicle. No longer is the truck limited to job sites and ranches—in every American suburb, you’ll find at least one fully loaded F-250 or F-350 serving as a daily driver and weekend hauler.

The Ford Super Duty platform offers a massive list of options, taking the truck from a base model, stripped-down, practical rig to a fully loaded luxury vehicle sporting a spacious cab and amenities fit for a king. Separating these experiences is a whole range of trim levels, and in this RealSource feature, we’re covering them all.

If you’re in the market for a new Ford Super Duty, follow along for our overview of the model’s available trim levels and options.

What Are Trim Levels?

Nearly every new vehicle offers a laundry list of features and upgrades, ranging from engine and drivetrain configurations to luxurious interior options. Rather than offer every option separately, auto manufacturers group options into trim levels.

In short, trim levels are pre-selected option groups offering drastically different experiences geared toward different clientele. Not every truck owner prioritizes the same features—for example, a customer looking for a daily driver and weekend hauler likely prioritizes a modern infotainment system, a large cab, and various interior features. Alternatively, a trades worker shopping for a new work truck would instead prioritize a heavy-duty powertrain and an eight-foot-long bed.

Ford Super Duty Trim Levels

Pickup truck manufacturers typically offer trim levels that appeal to select demographics, including off-road enthusiasts, large companies with fleet vehicles, luxury connoisseurs, and budget-minded consumers. To appeal to every consumer, Ford offers the 2024 Super Duty in six trim levels, including:

Which Trim Level is Right for You?

So the question remains—which trim level is right for you? To find an answer, you’ll need to consider a few factors, including your budget, your truck's planned usage, and your must-have features.

Beginning with budget, you’ll need to stay within a reasonable price range. After all, it’s tough to enjoy your new truck if the mere thought of its monthly payments makes you anxious. Begin the purchasing process with a dollar amount in mind and attempt to stick to it. For example, if your cap is $60,000, you'll be limited to XL and XLT trims.

Next, let’s talk about the truck’s planned usage, as this can directly impact which trim best suits your needs. If you’re planning to build a work truck, consider a base-spec XL or XLT to keep funds down. If you plan to use your Super Duty for daily driving and road trip purposes, you’ll likely prefer the added amenities of a Lariat package or above.

Lastly, let’s talk about must-have features. Certain trim levels block out features. For instance, the 6.8L gas engine is only available on XL trims, as is the rear-wheel-drive configuration. Alternatively, the 12-in. infotainment screen only comes on XLT and above trims. When ordering your new truck, determine which features are must-haves and which you can live without, as these decisions will likely narrow your selection from six trims to one or two.

And remember, if you can't find the exact options you’re looking for on dealer lots, you don’t have to settle. You can always special order a new pickup or upgrade your new Super Duty with products and accessories from RealTruck.
