For decades, the U.S. truck market has had a notable gap. We have full-sized and mid-sized trucks—but what about compact pickups? It's a relatively untapped market in the states—that is, until Ford's release of the Maverick. The compact, unibody pickup truck expertly carved its own lane, filling a void no other manufacturer dared to.

It's a truck for urban dwellers, commuters, or those who desire cargo space and utility without a massive footprint. If you're among many considering the jump to a new Ford Maverick, you may have trouble deciding between its five available trim levels. Each, though well-spec'd, offers a unique set of standard features.

Stay tuned as we explain each trim level available for the Ford Maverick to determine which is right for you.

What Are Trim Levels?

If you've ever shopped for a new vehicle, you've likely heard the salesperson refer to trim levels. However, aside from the varying price points, what does this mean?

Trim levels refer to preselected option groups applied to a vehicle by a manufacturer. Rather than offering each feature individually, manufacturers group options to meet particular price points and satisfy specific consumer needs.

For instance, a manufacturer may offer one trim level that boasts every amenity to appeal to luxury fanatics, one with upgraded drivetrain and suspension components to appeal to off-road enthusiasts, and another with little to no options for use as a fleet vehicle.

In the case of the 2025 Maverick, Ford offers its compact pickup in five trim levels, including:

  • XL

  • XLT

  • Lariat

  • Tremor

  • Lobo

Each trim level features a unique grouping of options to appeal to individuals with different budgets.

Which Trim Level is Right for You?

Deciding between all of the Maverick's available trim levels can be challenging, considering the well-equipped nature of each. However, several trim levels are geared toward particular driving styles and hobbies, making the selection more straightforward.

For an off-road enthusiast, the Tremor package is tough to beat. However, if you're not keen on its high price tag, consider an XLT with the FX4 package for solid performance at an affordable price point.

Ford's new Lobo trim will surely catch your eye if you're in the market for a road-hugging street machine. With a peppy power plant and unique trimmings, the Lobo is a standout package that offers arguably the best aesthetics.

For ultimate value, it's tough to pass on the XLT. Plus, Ford offers the XLT with many optional packages to customize it to suit your needs.
